Default The Disney "Wishes" Wedding Timeline

Getting the ball rolling on a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding can be a little intimidating at first. It’s easy to get discouraged. You are not alone. Disney gets phone calls all the time. They need to operate on a very tight ship to keep things moving as smoothly as possible.

This timeline gives you a breakdown of how a Disney wedding comes together.

16 months out from your wedding date
  • You can call Disney Fairy Tale Weddings to discuss event options. Then you can start to research and select your top choices for your ceremony and reception venues. Availability can vary and Disney recommends selecting your top three event times and locations.
  • Now is also a good time to start planning a site visit if you are able to. You can work with your Sales Consultant to plan a meeting to go over venue options, room blocks, and take a tour of the venues you are considering.

16 months out from your wedding date
  • At this time, Disney can tentatively hold space for your event. If you are planning on having your event held in a Disney theme park, Ariel’s @ Disney’s Beach Club Resort or Atlantic Dance Hall @ Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, you can start the Letter of Agreement process now.
  • If you are planning on using one of Disney’s ballrooms, your Letter of Agreement will be drawn up at 12 months out.

What now?
Well, you kind of sit on the Disney portion for a bit. Now is a good time to:
  • Start a planning binder. And make it a good-sized one. A 1” binder will not be big enough. Especially when you starting gathering information and inspiration. Click here for some great, printable wedding planning templates to help keep all that information organized.
  • Guest list! Gather up all the names and addresses for all those lucky people that you have chosen to share in your fairy tale.
  • Begin researching and contacting officiants. It’s very important to look into this straight away. It can be heartbreaking to feel connections with a certain officiant only to find out they are not available for you date.
  • If you will be using an outside photographer, other than Disney, start looking at their websites and galleries. Contact them for pricing information and, if possible, get them booked.
  • Have fun! Start coming up with themes and choosing color palettes. Pick out Save the Dates (but don’t send them until you get your Letter of Agreement confirming your date), and dress shopping.
  • And make sure you’re a part of the Private Forums here at Disneymooners! There is a wealth of information behind these doors. Past, present, and fellow future brides here to answer questions, offer feedback and support in a private location.

During this time you will also have to work out your room block for your guests. Disney offers special discounts to you and your guests at resorts selected by you. Your Wedding Consultant will be happy to help guide you through this process, as it can be a stressful project to some.

12 Months out from your wedding date
  • If you are using one of Disney’s ballrooms, this is when your Letter of Agreement will begin. Once your room block and contract information is submitted to your Wedding Consultant, your contract will be drawn up. This agreement has in it all your space details, Disney resort room block information, policies and procedures. This will be emailed to you within 2 weeks.
  • You will have 2 weeks to review the Letter of Agreement, sign it and return it with your $2000 deposit.

Congratulations! You are officially a Disney Bride To Be!!! Time to send out the Save the Dates!

Your Wedding Event Planner will then contact you. This can take some time. Some brides have reported hearing from their planners straight away and some have gone as much as 3 months before hearing from them. Don’t worry! It’s always exciting to get planning right away. And you will have plenty of planning to do. But you have plenty of time. You will receive your planning kit and lots of information to go over. Reception Menus, Bar Packages, Dessert/Welcome Party Menus, etc. This packet will also include the price per person costs and other helpful information.

You will also be able to schedule your formal planning session. You can schedule this for a time within 6 months of your wedding date. This is when you get to go to Franck’s Studio, sit with your Planner, meet with your Florist, have your menu tasting and, a lot of our favorites, the cake tasting!

If you are planning on a private Magic Kingdom Portrait session, now is the time to contact Disney’s Fine Art Photography department.

So you see, you will have plenty to do and plan. And we will be here to help answer any questions you have along the way.

6 Months out from your wedding date
  • You’ll attend your planning session, armed with inspiration photos, thoughts, ideas, and an empty stomach for all that great food you’ll be tasting!
  • Disney can now begin to confirm pricing with you so your budget will start to come together.

90 Days out from your wedding date
  • You will now need to pay the Full Minimum Expenditure to Disney.
6 Weeks out from your wedding date
It’s getting so close now!
  • You will receive your final budget from your Wedding Event Planner. This will show all the details you’ve chosen from your planning session and other communications with your planner along the way.

30 Days out from your wedding date
  • The rest of your balance is due at this time.
  • You’ll submit your signed copies of the Banquet Event Orders, ensuring everything is correct on there. You’ll need to go over this with a fine tooth come. And it’s very common to go through several until you get to the price you’re happy with.
4 Days out from your wedding date
  • If you are having a rehearsal dinner or welcome party put together to the DFTW department, you will need to submit your final head count now.
72 Hours out from the big day!
  • Final head count for the reception is due.
And that’s how Disney plans a wedding. They’re a well-oiled machine. This is their job. Through the ups and downs of planning a wedding, Disney pulls it all together in the end for a flawless day where you are truly a princess in the fairytale you created.

We here at the Disneymooners, invite you to join us in our Private Forums. A place for you to ask your questions, take advantage of the research that the past brides have done for you, read through our Planning Journals and Wedding Recaps. We also encourage you to start a Planning Journal of your own.

See ya real soon!!
